Confidence and Success
We first heard about Conductive Education in Washington Post article many years ago. Our son, Jason, was born with Cerebral Palsy. As an infant and toddler, we had no idea what to expect or how he would develop. We soon began the routine of physical, occupational and speech therapy - three hours a week seemed so inadequate, especially when children learning to play the piano or going to little league will spend more hours at their activities than our son was spending on daily living skills. Then we met parents in the area who were also looking for 'something more' for their child, including Mike Gilman and Margie LeVant. We began organizing Conductive Education summer programs in cooperation with the Peto Institute. Then Margie decided we needed to start an organization to bring CE to the DC area full time. No small task, but if you knew Margie, you know that no task is insurmountable. Fast forward. Today, Jason is a 23 year old student who will soon finish his college degree at UNCG. He is majoring in English and wants to be writer. Between trips to Budapest to attend the Peto, and programs offered locally through CPAC, Jason has benefited tremendously from conductive education. Some of the value is the daily 'grind' of working with classmates to improve his abilities; a lot of it is the high expectations from Conductors, support from peers, and sense of accomplishment. THANK YOU to the Cerebral Palsy Ability Center! We could not have accomplished so much without you. You changed our lives, and more importantly, you helped Jason reach his physical potential while instilling a confidence that he really can do just about anything he sets his mind to.
